Hearings & Testimony

The Forum has concluded hearing testimony from people who experienced institutional care in Scotland during childhood. We are now working on finalising our report, ‘Shine a Light on Care’ and the subsequent recommendations we will make to Scottish Government early next year. We are working alongside colleagues from the National Records for Scotland to ensure the safe transition and storage of the all the anonymised testimonies currently held on our database so these become part of Scotland’s public record. By the end of February 2021 any remaining personal data held by NCF will be destroyed in compliance with GDPR regulations. Applications to access the testimonies held on the public record can be made to the Data Controller of the Mental Welfare Commission.

Shine a Light on Care and My Message for Scotland

We are putting the finishing touches to our reports and expect to publish these early in March 2021. We are hoping to launch the reports at a special thank you event to acknowledge and thank all of the people who came to the Forum. We will update more on this when we have finalised our plans.

 Festive Holidays

The NCF will close over the festive period, from 3pm on Friday 18th December to 9am on Tuesday 5th January. From January 2021 we will have only 2 members of staff remaining. Any answerphone messages will be listened to and responded to once per week. We will continue to respond to any emails received into our information email address until the end of February 2021

 NCF Closure

It is anticipated that subject to Parliamentary approval, the National Confidential Forum will draw to a close in March 2021, as intimated in the Redress Bill recently presented to the Scottish Parliament.
